Often times, when we are asked our age, we tend to feel uncomfortable. This is especially so for ladies who will do anything to hide their real age.
So to save you the trouble, I am not going to ask your age.
Instead, I'm going to ask you to tell me which generation you are from. From the picture above, you can see the different generations and which category you are in. Now I really do not know who invented these terms but a search on Google revealed different definition for each generations.
Some say Generation X are those born between 1965 and 1980, while others say it's between 1961 and 1981. Still others say it's those born between 1965 and 1975. It was confusing, so I just gave up and stick to this one.
If you look at the picture above, there is no name given to those who were born after 1989. So I guess if you are one of them, you must be Generation Z!
Now here's a short description or characteristics prominent in each generation.
Baby Boomers - Beatlemania, television is the craze, transistor radio is a must-have.
Generation X - Don't respect parents, sex before marriage, don't believe in God.
Generation Y - Status seekers, "all about me" self importance, peer oriented, seeking instant gratification, internet savvy, embrace YouTube & social networking sites.
Generation Z - Single parent, same-sex family, equality of the sexes, addicted to and highly dependent on digital technology
I'm just wondering ...which category do people who like to blog fall under?
Anyway, I am a proud Gen X! That does not mean I don't respect my parents, or have sex before marriage or don't believe in God.
What about you?
I am like you Foong. And I respect my parents, don't believe in sex before marriage and I believe in God :D
Bloggers come from all generations (only to those who know how to use the computer la)! I'm definitely Generation Y but it's not always about "me".
I'm Generation Z - sex before marriage is OK for consenting adults, hate the beatles, somewhat believe in God, and highly dependent on technology!
I am a generation Y but one that doesn't fit into the description.
Gen X.
Respect my parents; they brought me up well.
Have lots of sex before marriage; well, you're not going to get any afterwards are you?
Don't believe in God because I've got a brain and like to use it. There's as much evidence to support God as there is Santa Claus, the tooth fairy, pixies, gnomes, the power of crystal energy, psychic abilities, ghosts, and the great invisible sky serpent Herbert The Coily. You can either believe in them all (if you're gullible) or none of them (if you're smart), but if you discriminate between the beliefs then you're demonstrably exposing a tendency towards imbecility.
According to the graphic, I'm generation Y, not necessarily fit all the description, and I'm proud! :D
Have a good weekend!
The definitions keep changing it's annoying.
But last checked I'm still a Gen Y, but I love the Beatles and an atheist.
Hi Foong, I'm a Gen X'er although that description does not apply to me.
my bug life, welcome to Gen X club! Haha!
eiling, you are right. Bloggers can be from Gen X, Y or Z or baby boomers too! But I think most bloggers from either Gen X or Y.
gallivanter, you hate the beatles? Not good, not good... sex before marriage? Fine. LOL
acura, maybe you are born into the wrong generation. Haha!
Mark, haha! You are funny! Thanks for dropping by my blog : )
cc, good, you should be a proud Gen Y! : )
synical, you sound like you're more from Gen X than Y : )
babette, welcome to Gen X club! : )
I am a baby boomer but right on the cusp of being generation X. And I was not a big fan of the beatles.
According to the picture, I'm generation Y. Although I'm pretty sure someone once said I'm generation X based on a different definition.
But if it's based on the characteristics, generation Y probably fits the best too compared to the rest. Yay to instant gratification! Haha!
I am neither! I am a Baby Boomer...but not that crazy about the Beatles! Yes...I had a transistor radio!!! LOL!!!
I am an X but that does not really sound much like me in the description. Who knows! It is interesting to see all the different generations though.
I'm in none of those generation leh! hehe... I'm alien.
*beep beep*
I respect my parents and I believe in God.. so I'm a...?? LOL
Enjoy your weekend Foong!!
Gen X. Me! Me! Me!
What happens after Genereation Z?
preston, you are not a big fan of beatles probably because you are almost a Gen X, though not quite there yet : )
missmall, so you are into instant gratification, well more of a Gen Y then : )
suituapui, hi baby boomer! Haha!
health nut wannabee mom, welcome to Gen X club! Yeah, I don't have those characteristics too : )
eastcoastlife, haha! Aliens don't blog, OK? : )
monica, if you respect your parents and believe in God, then you are not Gen X, Y or Z! OMG, you are a Baby Boomer - but that's impossible! You sound so Gen Y : )
lina, welcome to the Gen X club!: )
acura, God knows! : )
OMG you are awesome where you get this idea to write?
oh feel free to come by my new domain
http://heartrandom.com
as a parent i dont care about x, y or z as long as Benghui turns out to be a useful citizen and continue on my line.sometimes i wonder if even that will b too much to hope for :)
I think these 'generations' refer mostly to the US and UK folks.
While I'm supposed to be a Gen X'er, I don't identify with any of the traits.
But I do see a lot of Gen Y'ers around ... fresh, bright, energetic kids who are trainees today and want to be the CEO in 3 years' time!
Oh yeah, and Beatles rule!!! :D
Me Gen X too! Wukaka...
sherry, thanks! My ideas come from everywhere - internet, news, books, fellow bloggers and daily life experiences. Will visit your new domain : )
bengbeng, yeah actually which generation you belong to is not important. I'm sure benghui will be a successful adult in future. Just do your best as a dad and however it turns out, you will have no regrets : )
center parted, I agree more for US people. Anyway I think it's invented by them. Asians don't have these characteristics, although as we become more Westernized, we are becoming more and more like them!
neo, welcome to Gen X club! : )
ooohhh... I'm generation X but sometimes behave like generation Y, and falls into part of generation Z. HAHAHA
pikey, which part of you is Gen X, which part is Gen Y and Gen Z? : )
erm... well,
I'm generation X cos of the year I was born... then generation Y cos I'm internet savy and things like that... and generation Z cos of the same-sex thingy and sex equality.
