There’s romantic love between husband and wife, boyfriend and girlfriend.
There’s love for your parents, brothers and sisters.
There’s love for your cousins, your uncles and aunties.
There is love for your good friends and friends whom you care deeply about.
And then there is love for humanity and human beings of all races.
And not forgetting the love for animals and all living things!
But do you know what is the greatest love of all?
Most people either forget this or they are not aware of it, but the greatest love of all is loving yourself!
Yes, before you can love others, you have to really and truly love yourself.
Only when you are full of love can you give love to others.
You may have imperfections and weaknesses. Who doesn’t? You may have committed bad deeds. You may have many bad habits. You may be a total failure. But all these are not excuses not to love yourself!
Because love is the essence of who you are.
There’s a saying that God made us in his image. If you don’t love yourself, it is as good as insulting God. So you see, you are worthy of love no matter what you did, no matter how you look, or behave.
So love yourself more and more everyday.
If you are someone with low self esteem, it is basically a lack of love in yourself.
Read this affirmations to yourself everyday and feel that love that is within you soar to greater heights!
I love myself more and more everyday.
I love myself no matter what anyone say or do to me.
I love myself unconditionally.
I love myself in spite of my many imperfections and weaknesses.
I am worthy of love.
I am love.
There’s a song which inspired me to write this post about love. Most of you probably heard of this song already, but did you really take the trouble to understand its message?
The song is called “The Greatest Love Of All” sung by Whitney Houston.
Take a few minutes now and drop everything you are doing, listen to the song, and sing along with the lyrics provided below. Let the meaning of the lyrics sink in and feel that great wonderful love that is already inside you!
I believe that children are our future
Teach them well and let them lead the way
Show them all the beauty they possess inside
Give them a sense of pride to make it easier
Let the children's laughter remind us how we used to be
People need someone to look up to
I never found anyone who fulfilled my needs
A lonely place to be
And so I learned to depend on me
I decided long ago, never to walk in anyone's shadows
If I fail, if I succeed
At least I'll live as I believe
No matter what they take from me
They can't take away my dignity
Because the greatest love of all
Is happening to me
I found the greatest love of all
Inside of me
The greatest love of all
Is easy to achieve
Learning to love yourself
It is the greatest love of all
I believe that children are our future
Teach them well and let them lead the way
Show them all the beauty they possess inside
Give them a sense of pride to make it easier
Let the children's laughter remind us how we used to be
I decided long ago, never to walk in anyone's shadows
If I fail, if I succeed
At least I'll live as I believe
No matter what they take from me
They can't take away my dignity
Because the greatest love of all
Is happening to me
I found the greatest love of all
Inside of me
The greatest love of all
Is easy to achieve
Learning to love yourself
It is the greatest love of all
And if by chance, that special place
That you've been dreaming of
Leads you to a lonely place
Find your strength in love
Did the song touch a raw nerve in you? Did it make you break down and cry? Yes, do you love yourself so much that you actually cry? That is love!
Loving yourself is indeed, the greatest love of all.
I love myself!
That song by Whitney is evergreen...I sang it in my school choir once :)
when photographers approached the ladies and trying to snap their photos, the ladies will usually cover their faces .... leaving that spot asap
for men, once photographers start to take pictures, the men will say to themselves "i still have it"
How true...we should really learn to love ourselves before we could love others and others love us!
That song by Whitney Houston is really really good.
And yeah, we ought to love ourselves more.
yes, I agree completely and I think that everyday we have to remember that and nurture our souls.
I do love myself. :)
There are some who love themselves too much, that's no good.
Okay, let me love you too for the lyrics and the video which I've got them on my Lyrics site now. Thank you.
Yup...yup...when you love yourself then you can start loving others! :)
A beautiful song. I do agree we have to know how to love ourselves before others. But if we love ourselves too much, there is a danger too. You will become a selfish, only-care-about-yourself individual. The best is to strike a balance in the love for ourselves as well as others.
That is indeed the greatest love of all. In order to love others, we first need to love ourselves. It sould be the core of our emotions.
hi foogpc you are getting the month starter award :) check out later.
Thanks everyone for your comments!
Sherry, will check that out : )
aha ...... men loved themselves or able to accept themselves more than a lady in front of a camera
ladies will need to run off for emergency make-up
It's about self esteem!!! Many Asian parents tend to put down their children (pretending to be humble) but they may do them psychological harm...so our children have low self-esteem, lack confidence etc etc etc...
"Most people either forget this or they are not aware of it, but the greatest love of all is loving yourself! "
how true.sometimes we are just too hard on ourselves and loathe our appearance or hav to much expectaton our ourself!
I agree with you foongpac. Yes! That's nothing more resounding that loving you-yourself 1st in the very 1st place. When you do love yourself, then this affection will extend towards others in your circle of life. You dad, mum, siblings etc. Then this will be passed on. =)So let us make love "infectious"!
johnny ong, I see what you mean!
suituapui, yes usually it's the parents who damage the child's self esteem. Unfortunately not many parents are aware of this. Maybe there should be some sort of education for parents.
cbenc12, yes, we should still love ourselves despite our weaknesses and shortcomings.
tekkaus, that's a good one! Make love infectious! Infect everyone with our love and they pay it forward!
I've heard this song plenty of times but I never examined the WRITTEN words and YES, for the first time it touched a RAW nerve in me. Thanks.
jacqueline, most of the time, we listen to a song without really letting the lyrics sink in. I'm glad you allow that to happen this time and let this song touch you : )
nice one. yes, we should appreciate ourselves :)
Thanks, quachee! : )
This is so true, I've tried to love other and put them in the first place. However, giving and rely on other to give you happiness will often get disappointment. Love should be interdependent and not dependent.
Totally agree with you, kenneth! True love is unconditional.
