This restaurant had just opened at this mall so there were not many customers. Surprisingly, we had to wait quite long for our orders. I guess they were short of workers, most probably because it was still new.
I went there with my brother and his friend.
Here was what we ordered.
Don't remember the Japanese name, but it's something like prawn dumplings. Yummy! Especially when they were dipped in the sauce. Sorry there were only a few dumplings left when I took this photo. That's because we were all too hungry - must eat first!
I ordered this set meal which had this very delicious salmon fish as the main dish.
Damage to my pocket - RM37.
My brother ordered the chicken teriyaki set. I tried a bit of that - it was so delicious!
Damage to his pocket - RM22, I think.
My brother's friend ordered this beef with asparagus dish.
I also tried a bit of this dish and loved it! But the price almost made me faint. Guess how much? It was over RM60!!
For that kind of price, I could eat 3 dishes of that delicious teriyaki chicken! Or eat unlimited Japanese food at Tenji buffet!
The restaurant had quite a nice ambience which I like. All photos taken with my SE C902 handphone camera, so please bear with the poor quality especially in dim lightings.
This is the logo and the name of the restaurant.
By the way, my brother is the interior designer for this restaurant, so maybe if you visit it next time, do take notice of its interior design! Haha!
Oh, and of course because of my brother, we got some small discounts! But still a huge damage to our pockets. Well, never mind, I shall have bread or noodles for my next few meals!
FIRST COMMENTER
miss FC. Argh!!!!
the beef dish does look yummy, but RM60. Gasp!
So, when are going to Tenji?
some more you always get discount. So jealous. LOL
whew! so yummy!
RM22 is how much in philippine peso? LOL! chicken teriyaki is so mouth watering! i really love it (here in phils)
whew! i really love yer avatar here foongwooooooooooooooh!
wow so this is how the rich n femes dine.... the food looks good esp the teriyaki but i would feel guilty eating in that place thinking of how much damage to my pocket.
as for the China trip, thanks for inviting. I am afraid I am unable to come along due to time constraints :)
rad, congrats! You are FC (First Commenter) today! : )
You don't like wasabi? Oh, I love it! I like raw salmon but it must be fresh. Cooked salmon is nice too! : )
lina, don't worry, can try again next time : )
Yes, isn't RM60 a crazy price? I don't think it's even worth RM30!
If go Tenji buffet, don't know can eat how many unagi already! Haha!
Not sure about Tenji, haven't even start booking, cos friends all can't agree on the same day. *Hassle!* By the time everyone agrees on the day, I'm sure it'll be fully booked! : (
But I'm going to Sheraton Subang for all-you-can-eat Japanese lunch next week. Can't wait!! Hehe
The dumplings should be called Gyoza in japanese, depending on the method of cooking you can have different names. This one looks very much like Yaki Gyoza if you ask me.
Also, I believe the reason why the beef-asparagus is so expensive is because the beef is imported from Japan. It's a special, only-in-Japan kind of beef I hear - the cows drink beer one! Last time I saw this japanese beef dish that cost RM 120 per serving :O
How about introducing your brother to us next time? :P
gagay, I think RM22 is about 290pesos. Is that cheap or expensive? Thanks for loving my avatar! : )
bengbeng, yeah can only it once in a while. If eat everyday, sure bankrupt! Haha! Too bad you can't join me for my China trip : (
JL, I think you are right! It is indeed called Yaki Gyoza!
So that's why the beef so expensive! Came from cows that drink beer! My, my! What's the purpose of giving beer to the cows may I ask?
RM120 per serving? That's crazy! OK, only for the rich people, definitely not for me.
I think you know quite a lot about Japanese and Korean food? Must ask you to teach me! : )
Not really into Japanese food, but my daughter loves it! Can be quite expensive... Sob! Sob! The father's the one who pays... Hahahahaha!
suituapui, you prefer Chinese food right? Yes, Japanese food quite expensive, so I seldom eat too. Pay for your daughter's meal is OK lah, but must ask her to pay also sometimes. Cannot spoil her too much, yes? : )
That last dish is expensive compared to the rest. Maybe it's because of the asparagus? I like Teriyaki chicken and beef, I still have to try salmon. although I prefer wild caught salmon to the farm raised salmon, the taste is so different. Here's a tidbit, farm raised salmon is light pink when cooked (since they feed it color pellets) while wild salmon stays deep red after it's cooked. :)
My lady boss told me that giving beer to the cows results in a very tender beef texture. What's more there are different types of this kind of beef, and different price tags. The RM120 is already the cheapest one of this kind of beef, called Wagyu beef. Surprise :O. I know only two types - Wagyu and Kobe beef, you can read more about Kobe beef at wiki:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kobe_beef
And as per my reply, I'm still learning, there's a whole lot of stuff that I've yet to know about Korean and Japanese including their food. If you don't mind I can offer what limited knowledge I have, but have to meet up someday lah XD
oh thanks! haha didn't think that far :P
I don't like wasabi at all. I can't even stand smelling it! I mean it. I'm not exaggerating at all.
i myself lurve jap foods :)
but can't find any outlet here in Bint-ulu lo :(
I have eaten at this restaurant but only at Mid Valley. The dumplings look good. I still prefer raw salmon anytime..yum!
Btw, I think the food quality has somewhat waned at the Mid Valley branch...and I don't think I shall pay them a visit again.
Also, I don't quite like the ambience as ppl can literally light up in the air conditioned restaurant as they dun have a separate dining area for those who wish to smoke.
oh man, the chicken set make my tummy rumbling like crazy.
congrats for being my FC today! i've put up your avatar, sitting so cozy in my blog. :)
i guess u must be bitten by the CHOP-PING bug. i've been seeing u so bz going around in the blogosphere with your CHOP, CHOP, CHOP!
if foong go out and eat kobe beef - that'll just show that he's loaded! Kobe beef so expensive!
I'll just settle for an Australian wagyu beef, thank you. LOL
Wah, going for another all-can-eat session. So envy you. Don't forget to work all that excess food out afterwards!
a consolation of not being able to get FC a few times, I'm proud to say, I'm the top commenter today. Wohooo!!!
What? You think me putting up comments had no ulterior motive? :Evil laugh:
Looks delicious but expensive
a bit expensive leh... do i get similar discount if i tell them i know yr brother? :D
I loved chicken teriyaki too!
Your brother has good taste. :)
Japanese meals are expensive but the dishes looked yummy to me.
You become woodcutter? chop! chop! chop!
hahaha....
Hey foong, if you're free on the 16th, maybe I can meet up with you? Just a simple meetup, I'll be somewhere at downtown KL and I'm available anytime before 7 pm. If you're interested you can email me at prince_caspian_86@yahoo.com. ;D
babette, I'm sure wild caught salmon is healthier than farm raised ones. Thanks for the tips! The beef is expensive most probably because it's imported beef.
JL, thanks for the information. I think I've heard about wagyu and kobe beef. All I know these are food for the rich and loaded! : )
rad, glad you like your logo on my blog. Hehe. Come and be first commenter and you will see more of your logo here : )
I guess it's an acquired taste. You might like it if you eat more of it! : )
annant, no Japanese restaurant in Bintulu? What a pity! Never mind, come over here to KL for a holiday and visit as many japanese restaurants as you can! : )
mei teng, oh smokers can light up in the restaurant? Didn't know that! I don't like to eat when there are smokers around!
Raw salmon is indeed yummy! : )
life ramblings, haha! Yeah I'm bitten by the chopping bug! So must go around chop, chop chop!! LOL! All thanks to mariuca : )
The chicken teriyaki is really delicious! You must give it a try!
lina, don't have to envy me lah. You also can mah!
Congrats for being Top Commenter!! Wah! So evil! Now I know why you keep coming back to comment. Haha! But you are most welcome to leave as many comments as you wish, lina! : )
borneo falcon, damn right it's expensive! So I can only afford it once in a while. Must also enjoy once in a while lah : )
nic, I don't think so. Hehe. Like that everyone also say he or she knows my brother! But if you eat there together with my brother, then can lah : )
DC, so quickly stop by Kiku Zakura for lunch or dinner! : )
eastcoastlife, yeah japanese dishes are yummy! But expensive : (
Haha! Ya, economy not good. Now working part time as woodcutter. Chop, chop, chop everywhere! LOL!: )
JL, ok will email you : )
foong & ECL,
ROFL on the woodcutter comment. Funny!
never tried there because mum and sis commented the food there is not that great! and i have looked at the menu... it's not my cup of tea. so i guess i would always go back to sakae sushi or sushi zanmai for my jap fix.
The food looks amazing and even before you said that your brother was an interior designer I was thinking what a fantastic looking place!
I was drooling at the salmon until I read the price. Hahaha!
Wao, your blog is becoming more and more interesting. I like the all your postings, especially the one 'Will The World Ends 2012'.......because that reminds me to be more religious. :):)
I was at Tropicana City last week. The mall is so empty and cold. I was at Esquire Kitchen but surprisingly it's really crowded there.
lina,
Did you notice foong has been going around chop chop chop in many blogs?
He's very hardworking and it's good for the community. :)
Not discouraging any one from doing that. We should be more active participating in the comments of our blogger friends. :)
lina, haha!
renaye, Sakae Sushi and Sushi Zanmai are definitely cheaper. But the food at Kiku Zakura is not bad : )
health nut wannabee mom, thanks! I'm sure my brother will be happy to hear this! : )
day-dreamer, haha! It is indeed pricey : )
molly, thanks for the compliments! Glad you like all my posts! : )
eiling, yes I agree the mall is empty and cold. Not many people. Maybe not good feng shui? But I think when the GSC cineplex open in future, there will be more people visit this mall, hopefully.
eastcoastlife, thanks for saying I'm hardworking. But actually I'm not really hardworking lah, just that I love to visit blogs and reading other people's blog is my hobby and favourite past time. haha!
I also agree we should all be more active in commenting on fellow bloggers' blogs. I love receiving comments from my readers and love interacting with them : )
Oh I loveeeeeee Chicken Teriyaki! And the picture here looks absolutely gorgeous! I'll definitely go to this place one day. :)
looks alluring, but the price throws me off. so expensive most of the dishes!
iamthewitch, I'm sure you'll like the chicken teriyaki in Kiku Zakura : )
levian, yes the price is a real killer, no doubt about it! : (
I went to Tropicana City Mall the other day but didn't notice this Jap restaurant :-D Everything looks soooo yummy Foong!
gassssssssssp! RM60! O_O but it looks real good!
Looks Ho Chiak...and expensive wor! =/ Chicken Teriyucki? Never tried that before. LOL :D
The gyoza and teriyaki looks so delicious, I'm craving now to eat those! If you enjoyed the food then the wallet damage is all compensated then! haha
monica, it's next to Pho Hoa Restaurant, near Borders. The food is yummy alrite, but the price is a killer! : )
xin, yeah crazy price! But maybe the beef is imported from Japan and the cows were fed with beer, hence the expensive price tag! : )
tekkaus, really ho chiak! But expensive! Never try chicken teriyaki before? Go and try one today! : )
ayie, yes they not only look delicious, they are delicious! But still cannot compensate wallet damage! haha!
The best way to enjoy it is to have somebody else pay for it! hahahaha, just kidding! Good thing that the food really taste good or else (if it's me) I'll freak out if I pay too much for something that didn't satisfy my taste buds! =P
ayie, if someone else pay for the meal, I will enjoy it too of course! Me too - I will not like it if the food is expensive and turns out to be not nice as well. Surely sucks big time! : )
Foong,I didn't notice your reply to gagay about the peso rate of the meal til today..P290.00 is pretty expensive I admit but considering it's a restaurant (right?) and the foods are quite a lot, it's still a pretty good price. I remember my last time eating in Teriyaki Boy costed me P500-600.00 just for a grp of 4.
Nice foods...Hungry to see the photos.
ayie, I guess the price is a little on the high side, but Japanese food are quite expensive here in Malaysia.
superman, looking at my own photos make me hungry too : )
I see, that's why. I guess it's because of the ingredients too coz it's a bit expensive there in Philippines and here in US too. I'm just happy that they do have Jap resto everywhere!
Well teh design looks great to praise goes to your bro.
A little expensive though! Then again japanese food always is.
Your post really peaked my interest! Keep up the good work!
I appreciate your effort. Thanks for the tutorial.
