Music is music! Whether it is Chinese, Malay or Indian music, they are music all the same! To me, music transcends all languages!
I wonder how come my Chinese friends listen to English songs then? Should I say they are weird then?
I think we do have a lot of nice Malay songs and we only need to expose ourselves to these songs to appreciate them. To me, the more I listen to a song, the more I like it. But of course, after some time, I will get bored and that's when I switch to another song! Haha!
I even sing Malay songs in karaoke much to the amazement (or disbelief?) of my Chinese friends. Well, they sing mostly Mandarin songs, which I love too, but Malay songs are really not that bad!
I also like songs sung by Indonesian artistes like Kris Dayanti, Samsons and Peterpan. These Indonesians singers are really a talented lot!
But since I'm a Malaysian, I'll talk about Malaysian singers today. There's one Malaysian singer whom I really admire and she is none other than the famous Siti Nurhaliza! She has a great voice and good looks but what I find amazing is that she is able to maintain her popularity for such a long time!
Although I do not fancy all her songs, this is her one song that I really, really like! It's called "Bukan Cinta Biasa" which translates to "Not An Ordinary Love".
Enjoy the video and have a great week, everyone! : )
Lyrics
Begitu banyak cerita
Atas sebab ada duka
Cinta yang ingin ku tulis
Bukanlah cinta biasa
Dua keyakinan beza
Masalah pun takkan sama
Ku tak ingin dia ragu
Mengapa mereka selalu bertanya
Cintaku bukan di atas kertas
Cintaku getaran yang sama
Tak perlu di paksa
Tak perlu di cari
Kerna ku yakin ada jawabnya...ohhh
Andai ku bisa merubah semua
Hingga tiada orang terluka
Tapi tak mungkin,
Ku tak berdaya
Hanya yakin menunggu
Jawabnya
Janji terikat setia
Masa mengupas segala
Mungkin dia kan berlalu
Ku tak mahu mereka tertawa
Diriku hanya insan biasa
Miliki naluri yang sama
Tak ingin berpaling
Tak ingin berganti
Jiwa ku sering saja berkata..ohh
Andai ku mampu mengulang semula
Ku pasti tiada yang curiga
Kasih kan hadir
Tiada terduga
Hanya yakin menunggu
Jawapan...
Cintaku bukan di atas kertas
Cintaku getaran yang sama
Tak perlu di paksa
Tak perlu di cari
Kerna ku yakin ada jawabnya...ohhh
Andai ku bisa merubah semua
Hingga tiada orang terluka
Tapi tak mungkin
Ku tak berdaya
Hanya yakin menunggu
Jawabnya...ohhh
Diriku hanya insan biasa
Miliki naluri yang sama
Tak ingin berpaling
Tak ingin berganti
Jiwa ku sering saja berkata..ohh
Andai ku mampu pulang semula
Ku pasti tiada yang curiga
Kasih kan hadir
Tiada terduka
Hanya yakin menunggu
Jawapan...

You made it for MM!
I don't specifically listen to Malay songs but I do agree that some of them are really nice even oldies by P Ramlee.
FC2? :P
Wait I'm listening to it right now.
I'm sure some malay songs would be nice but sadly I haven't got much exposure so I don't know which ones are good.
Which also means you should try out Music Monday so you can share the nice malay songs with us all XP
Oh this one. I think this song is great, as is (Datuk) Siti Nurhaliza hehe.
I think it would help our international friends if there are English translations for the song. :)
happysurfer, congrats you are FC here today!
MM? I don't join MM! : )
Yes, some Malay songs are nice and yes, P Ramlee's songs are classics! Love them! : )
JL, FC2? Yes, you are FC2 but too lazy to put the linky love! Sorry! Only FC on my blog, don't want to set a precedent if not, later I will have to do FC3 as well!
You don't listen to Malay songs? Too occupied with Korean songs? LOL!
MM? Maybe I will try in future but not now. Thanks for recommending!
English translation is nice, but I think my BM not so good so not able to do the translation. Maybe you can help? : )
Well I know about the FC thing. No worries :D
woah, so many comments right away!
then I'm fc3 foong!
she sings good! I don't mind other songs whether it's from whatever country as long as it sounds good to me. In fact I love Japanese songs! I sing along with Jap songs even at work...one time boss even heard me and he was just smiling at me. Hehe wasn't aware I was quite loud coz I was wearing my headset! ahahahaha
i LOVE SN.......:).....her voice is just so powerful....and PRamlee, Ning, Sheila Majid, Nora, Dayang, Misha Omar.....hehehhee.....and some indonesian singers......:)but Siti wins hands down lar.....
chop!
Morning Foong! I oso like this song from CT, I don get tired of listening to it. :)
Oh Indonesian singers are awesome, most of them... I love Dewa and Samsons! :)
Good morning Foong. this is one of my faves from CT.
i enjoyed most of hers songs. they are pleasant and soothing to the ears. and i like annuar zain too.
i enjoyed listening to her sing, what a beautiful voice, though i did not know any of the lyrics, but i can tell the tune is so heartelt.
last time when i was in my teens, yes, i listened to malay songs .. now in office, still listening, not on my own accord but my malay colleagues on their channel whole day long.. so sort of immune to them... but like u, Siti is still the best of all.. she has a very sweet sweet voice..
I like old Malay songs like Lagenda, Isabella and a few I can't remember the titles liao. Nothing wrong with liking Malay songs :)
I like Malay songs too...but mostly from Indonesian. :D Maybe because their "malay" voice is better and more ear-tendering. LOL :P
Some Malaysian Malay songs are great...for example Kenangan Terindah, Belaian Jiwa etc. But not all lar. IMHO, some Malay songs in Malaysia are so damn irritating. All they do is screaming. Haha :D
Kau Terintimewa by Adibah Noor is really awesome too. But I love Indon' Sheila On 7's songs. For example...Sophia and....a lot...a lot more. :D
I did listen to Malay songs and some Indian songs when I was a kid. Sudirman was my favorite. But today the media is overwhelmed by music from China and Taiwan.
Thanks to the 'mother tongue first' policy of the Chinese educationists, younger generation don't even listen to English songs. Now I hope the sudden death of MJ will open up their mind - there are more than Chinese songs.
P/S I am a vocal critic of those f***ing chauvinist Chinese educationists.
Some of the malay songs are nice. I listen occasionally but I don't sing :)
Like other songs, some Malay songs are nice and some aren't. I listen to them, but I hate all those sappy lovey-dovey Malay songs.
I still like & listen to Ella & OAG the most.
I must admit I am not a fan of Malay language songs. But I like Sheila Majid back then...becoz some of her songs have a jazzy feel to it. I also like gospel songs sung in the Malay language..somehow they're really nice.
Malay songs are ok. I am choosy with my music though. I believe I am quite different comparing with all the people I know. I used to enjoy Kamu by Nitrus and Mungkin Nanti by PeterPan (I believe they are Indonesians). When I was younger I like KRU hehe :P. But I haven't been listening to the radio to be updated with any latest songs English or Malay. Been stuck on my Smashing Pumpkins. :P
hmmmm i seldom listen to malay songs, because not really being exposed to that.. have heard rarely a few, but interesting enough i've been listening to some Hindi songs from the blockbuster "Kuch Kuch Hota Hai" years back.. hahahaha!!
Yeah I agree, some Malay songs are really nice.
Yeah i have to agree that some malay songs are good. Like the "Januari" sung by Glenn and also the Indonesian band Peter Pan. haha...
I'm chinese but i listen to English songs. "same meaning" so nothing weird.
Foong, you quit entrecard too?
ayie, yes you are FC3! Congrats! : )
Wow! You like Japanese songs? You can speak Japanese? Haha! Got carried away till didn't realise your boss was listening to you singing? I like to sing in the shower. The acoustics in the bathroom somehow makes my voice sound better! : )
manglish, you like Siti Nurhaliza too? Gimme a five! : )
Yes, she's good - the only thing is her singing style is the same. Maybe she should change a bit, especially the way she does those melody improvisations.
mariuca, high 5! : ) Yes, Siti is good isn't it? I like this song a lot!! Can listen to it again and again!
I like songs by Samsons too! Even bought their CD! : )
life ramblings, oh, you listen to Malay songs too? Cool! This song is nice, isn't it?
Oh, you like to listen to Annuar Zain? I'm not a fan, but I think he sings pretty well : )
betchai, sorry did not include a translation of the lyrics in English. Too much work for me! And I'm not that good in translating anyway! LOL!
But you know what? I'm sure you can feel the music without understanding the language right? Cos music transcends all languages! Glad you enjoyed the song! : )
reanaclaire, wow! You are forced to listen to Malay songs day in and out in your office? Sorry about that! I think I will get fed up after a while! I like to have variety in my music. A combination of Malay, English and Chinese, and maybe some Japanese and Korean songs would be ideal for me! Haha!
Yes, Siti does have a sweet voice : )
che-cheh, like listening to old Malay songs? From the 60's or 80's? Yes, some are nice, but not all.
I guess there is nothing wrong with liking Malay songs. But I tend to like any kind of songs if I listen to them long enough, except heavy metal. I can't stand heavy metal songs!
tekkaus, I know you sure like Malay songs cos you have been reading Malay books since small! Haha!
Yes, I love Indonesia songs too! Hey, Kenangan Terindah is a song by Samsons, an Indonesian band! Not Malaysian!
Belaian Jiwa is excellent! A world class song which can compete with any English songs out there!
I do agree some Malay songs are irritating. When I hear them on radio, I immediately change station! LOL!
Terlalu Instimewa by Adibah Noor is a fantastic song! Pulled at my heartstrings everytime I hear it! And Adibah has a great voice! I like her singing as well as her comedic antics! : )
khengsiong, wow! You are a vocal critic of those chauvinistic Chinese educationists? Really dislike them, don't you? Me too! Haha!
A lot of my Chinese friends also listen to Chinese songs only. Even though they can speak English!
But some of my Chinese friends love English songs, though very few like Malay songs. So in karaoke sessions, I will be the rare one who sing Malay songs! LOL!
borneo falcon, you mean you don't sing malay songs, OR you don't sing at all?
lina, yes I also don't really like all those sappy and lovey-dovey Malay songs! And there are lots of them on radio! When I hear them, I just change radio station! Haha!
Hey, I like listening to Ella and to a lesser extent, OAG. Ella has a great voice and she's another artiste who lasted for a very long time! : )
mei teng, you like jazzy songs? Sheila Majid is a good singer! I tried singing her song Sinaran once and I can tell you despite it being a simple song it's not easy to sing it! You need to have some skills to make the song sound good! After my attempt to sing that song, I realised Sheila Majid is a very talented singer.
Maybe you like songs by Malaysian singer Zee Avi? But she sings mostly English songs. Watch her video here : )
ladyviral, I love Mungkin Nanti by Peterpan! Even have the song as caller ringtone on my phone. Haha! Yes, Peterpan is an Indonesian band, though I think they have disbanded, if I'm not mistaken.
You like Smashing Pumpkins? I'm not a fan but they do have some nice songs. I usually get stuck to Mariah Carey albums. She's coming out with a new album in August! Yay! : )
SK, now why am I not surprised you listen to Hindi songs? You are after all, SK Thamby! haha!!
day-dreamer, yeah, Malay songs can be as good as English songs, well at least some of them : )
eiling, ooh! You like Malay songs too? Yes, Januari by Glenn Fredly is my favourite! And Mungkin Nanti by Peterpan is excellent song - definitely in my top 10 Malay songs of all time! : )
victor kiu, welcome back, victor! Glad you listen to English songs too! I like Chinese songs a lot! : )
Its the rhythm that matters to me. The only malay song I know is Dayung Sampan. =p
mei teng, no I have not quit Entrecard. What makes you think I quit? Talking about Entrecard, I think I better cash out my EC points : )
shingo T, haha! Dayung Sampan is the only Malay song you know? Aiyo! Looks like you don't listen to Malay songs lah! : )
I'm not familiar with Malay songs but some that I heard are really melodious.
I wish my Bahasa Melayu is good so I can understand the lyrics better.
Didn't see the widget on your blog. That's why I thought you quit.
i dont really listen to specific malay songs.. but i do like some.. =)
kenwooi.com
lets see.. i checked my song files.. i have malay songs like belaian jiwa, kau ilhamku, ku mohon and lagenda.. =)
Thanks. I'm FC over at Mei Teng's too and psst...actually also made it at Kheng Siong's but I was embarrassed to let him know that I was still up that late, so I passed it by. He doesn't know. shhhhh...
I need to buy 4D, eh? LOL!
I listen to Malay songs and sing them too...nothing strange about that! Why people have to be so narrow-minded?
This is new.
I listen to Malays songs too.
I don't listen to Malay songs that much, but Siti's songs are really nice.
Oh my fav local malay singer has to be Adibah Noor ..... a powerhouse but with such a sweet gentle tone to it.
Indon singers hv been great since ages ago eg Broery Marantika, me likey! ^_^
+Ant+
I like Malay songs too, siti nurhaliza is one of the fave, the rest like misha omar, ning baizura, nora, kris dayanti, anuar zain, innuendo and many more !

mei teng, oic! Well, I'm still with EC : )
kenwooi, the Malay songs you have in your song files are my favourite malay songs! : )
happysurfer, haha! Yeah, go and buy 4D quick!! : )
suituapui, exactly! Why must they be so narrow minded? : )
willie, what is new? This song? It's actually an old song from Siti's old album, but then again, not too old : )
neo, yeah her songs are nice, but not all lah : )
anton, oh Aidbah Noor is a good singer. Powerful voice! I first noticed her when she sang and acted in the Singaporean musical "Chang & Eng" which was staged at Istana Budaya many years ago. She acted as a midwife.
I love her song "Terlalu Istimewa" - very touching song!
Broery Marantika - yes, he's very famous in Indonesia and Malaysia as well. His songs are good! : )
pikey, you must be a big fan of malay songs!! : )
annant, you like malay and indonesian songs? Gimme a 5! : )
bluedreamer27, first time hearing a Malay song? Glad you like it! Happy blogging to you too! : )
alantanblog, agree. Music is universal. Thanks for dropping by! : )
haha weird thing is i like english and some old chinese songs.
i only listen to few malay songs.
but nothing suppose to be weird when it comes to music. its individual preference! :D
eh when are you going to sing me this song? LOL
I dont reallylisten to malay songs. I like siti when she was still siti, not after she became a datin then a datuk... dunno lah... dun fancy her anymore..LOL..
This is a nice video !! I didn't understand the wordings but video is nice !!Unseen Rajasthan
i love jazz, cuban, canto, but never malay.
u r not weird tho. u r just the music buff type. u play instruments. so i guess u hv a wide range of preferences.
i speak just very little, I'm too much into anime before and some japanese series...that's why. Sometimes i just keep singing no matter what! bathoom acoustics is good, that's the same sound quality you'll get in a music studio. =)
ya i kinda agree with you on her style of singing but hey tat is why we fell in love wif her lar......hehehhe.......:)
Haha! I like to karaoke this song...
And yeah, nth weird about liking different language's songs.. Music is music. I like listening to Chinese, Japanese and Korean songs too.. :D
In Indonesia, songs in Indonesia languages is not only preferred by certain ethnic group. Afaik there's no boundary, my foreign (western and eastern) friends even like some of them a lot and can sing them too :-D.
In fact music (/song) usually becomes a medium that connects people.
There are some Chinese Indonesia singers who make best seller songs or become famous singers, for instance, like Agnes Monica and Delon.
I only like very very few Indonesian language songs though. But it's just preference, cause music is music.
Foong! I oso love Terlalu Instimewa by Adibah Noor :)
I like Malay Songs too, expecially those from Alleycats!
dun like siti nurhaliza
shiela majid beats her hands down
it is not that i like or dislike Malay songs but nowadays Malay songs r too hot for me. I prefer the old songs of yesteryears
I listen to Malay songs and I even enjoy quite a few of them too :D
I've downloaded quite a bit too ...
brian kinney, you don't really like Malay songs? Yes, I agree it's nothing weird cos music is all up to the individual's preference, just like sexual orientation right? haha! Oops! Maybe that's not a good comparison. I should say just like food. Different people like different types of food, same with music.
Me singing this song? Tak nak! I would sound horrible especially after you've heard Siti Nurhaliza sang it! : )
merryn, you like the old Siti? Before she got married and got her Datukship? And maybe before she started covering her head, I suppose?
Yeah, just like some people prefer the old Mariah Carey and not the new one. I guess most of us find it hard to adapt to changes.
I try not to focus on the singer, but on the music itself. If Siti can still give us good music, I don't really care what she does as a person.
I've done the same with Mariah, and I find that I'm still a huge fan of her even though she's no longer the old Mariah that I knew when I first started to buy her albums : )
unseen rajasthan, glad you like the video! : )
Hahah yes I do! Not many people I know like Smashing Pumpkins or even songs I like... I believe I am very different from peopl eI know hahah. So I would be glad means my mobile ringtone would be different from people :P.
yup i wonder how would it like if it will be translated to english
I have to admit that eventho I'm Malaysian I don't actually listen to Malay songs...dunno lah. Like kurang garam only. Indonesian music is soooooo much better! But then again, that's just my opinion. :P
this is the first malay song i heard last time, n found it very nice. :) i seldom listen to malaysian singer but always listen to indonesian singer, kris dayanti got 1 great song - menghitung hari ! since then, i search for her other songs , and all nice! :)
Just get to bump into this blog when i search for "nice malay songs" @ google. i am a malaysian and i am truly agree with what you said. music is nice regardless of the languages. i get used to listen to japanese songs which i barely understand what they are singing.
by the way, siti's songs ain't the cup of my tea. i prefer the rock type. for example, "itu kamu" by estranged, "lagu untukmu" by meet uncle hussain, "janjiku" by sofaz. "ketulusan hati" by anuar zain not bad as well. and some older songs like "belaian jiwa" and "kau ilhamku" are songs that must listened.
indonesian musics also kinda nice. peterpan's songs would be first choice. "kenangan terindah" is such famous. and i like ndiji.
however since i came to sg, i rarely listen to malay/indo music, got any nice recommendations?
I agree with you, I love this song.
I'm from Sabah & I had moved to KL as I'm attending to UCSI University. I preferred to go to UM but my parents don't allow it as UM has no twinning system. I really love Malay songs and I'm a fan of Siti Nurhaliza, but in UCSI, it's all useless. Because most of students are Chinese. I don't say that Chinese are bad, some of Chinese are really kind, but it's probably limited in Borneo. When I was in Sabah, I always sang Malay songs. Although Chinese students were not interesting in it, but at least they didn't hate it. But here, in Kuala Lumpur, it's quite different. When I said I'm a fan of Siti Nurhaliza, first time my new friends liked it. They came from Perak. But soon, they changed their mind. In Sabah, my schoolmate wanted to befriend me when I sang Malay songs, but here, when I said I'm a fan of Siti Nurhaliza, soon they didn't want to befriend me. If I went to UM, most of students are Malay & they would befriend me, but UCSI is different. Most of students are Chinese & they hate Malay. I don't know why. As a Malaysian, I'm angry why some Chinese refuse Malay. I just want to tell them, why don't you move to Singapore or China? In America, all races are different, but they never refuse American culture. But in Malaysia, why lots of people refuse Malay culture? Ridiculous.
I love music, love music, pop music is my favorite thing. I just found the best music app for me, I would recommend it to you, see below:ringtonemob
